ST Reflection 2009- Secondary 2NA/E
Term 3, Week 3 (13 July 09)

Q1)
(a) Why is cheer leading an expensive sport?
(b) What makes cheer leading such a tough sport?

Answer :

(a) Cheer leading is an expensive sport as a lot of things that they
need to buy. Things like their pom-poms that cost $50 to $70 for
a a pair imported from Taiwan. Other than that, they also need to
buy hair products that cost about $50 for a team per competition.
New tailored costumes for each competition season that cost $100
to $400 each. They also need to pay for their gymnastic classes and
workshops for $50 per lesson. Their tights cost from $2 to $25 that
imported from Thailand. Not only that but they also had to buy their
training mats that cost $50 each. For their shoes that imported from the
United States and Taiwan cost $90 to $150 a pair. And lastly, medical
insurance and nutritional supplements and vitamins are also needed for
cheer leading. It cost up to $30 to $100 per person for the medical
insurance. As for nutritional supplements, it cost up to $50 to $130 per
bottle. That's why cheer leading is a expensive sport.

(b) Its such a tough sport as cheer leading needs hours of practice several
times a week, never minding blood, sweat and tears it takes to perfect each
high flip, lift and tumbling stunt that is part of the routine. It requires teamwork
to get a stunt done. It's not easy and not for only fun, it needs a lot of training.

Q2) What is your opinion of cheerleaders? If given a
chance, would you join cheer leading? Why/ why not?

Answer : In my opinion, cheerleaders have a good mind set for what
they wanted as they do not think of the pain and the tiredness that
they need to go through for the practice as long as they get to go into the
cheer leading competition that cost a lot of money. They even take the
risk of joining this tough sport as they have the value of resilience in them
that they manage to join this sport. If I have the chance of joining cheer
leading squad, I would take the risk too as this sport is quite challenging
and I think its good for students to set the values in them.
